Because I am a Girl

Here at Moving Mountains we believe that our choices have an impact on others and the world. That is why for every purchase made we donate $5 to organizations supporting women and girls around the world.

We are thrilled to announce that for the next few months our donations will be going to Plan International’s Because I am a Girl campaign!

The Because I am a Girl campaign is a global initiative working to end gender inequality and promote girls’ rights. Plan International believes that when girls are educated, healthy and empowered, they can lift themselves and everyone around them out of poverty.

Plan International’s Work

The Plight of Girls

Girls in the poorest regions of the world are among the most disadvantaged people on the planet. They face unique barriers to survival and development — simply because they’re girls. We will never eliminate global poverty unless we invest equally in all our children and address inequalities for girls.

The power of girls

There is no question that investing in girls in developing countries is key to reducing global poverty and instability. Girls have a unique power to positively influence the lives of those around them. If they are healthy, educated, and empowered, they will pull themselves out of poverty, and bring their children, communities and nations along with them.

The plan for girls

Plan has a range of programs to improve the lives of girls and give them equal access to health care, education, protection, independence, and an opportunity to participate in society. Their programs include scholarships, safe schools and dormitories, reproductive and maternal health programs, life skills, vocational training, financial literacy programs, microfinance, and more.

How to Get Involved

There are many ways to get involved and contribute to Because I am a Girl. For starters, you can create a Because I am a Girl Club where you can help empower youth to stand up for girls’ rights and gender equality in North America and around the world. Or you can join the Speaker’s Bureau and speak at local and global forums on gender equality. You could even host a fundraiser in your community or use your voice on social media to share what a brighter future for girls means to you #BrighterFuture.
